Setting up test accommodations in Canvas ensures equitable access for students with approved needs. Instructors can easily provide extra time, adjust availability windows, or create separate assignments using Canvas quiz settings and the “Moderate Quiz” feature, supporting compliance and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Classic Quizzes: Applying Accommodations
Step 1: Open the Quiz
- Go to Quizzes in your course and select the quiz.
Step 2: Click “Moderate This Quiz”
- From the quiz page, click Moderate This Quiz in the right-hand menu.
Step 3: Locate the Student
- Find the student who needs accommodations.
Step 4: Add Extra Time
- Click the pencil icon next to the student’s name.
- Enter additional minutes in Extra Time on Every Attempt.
Step 5: Allow Additional Attempts (If Needed)
- Adjust the number of attempts in the same panel.
Step 6: Save Changes
- Confirm and save your settings.
New Quizzes: Applying Accommodations
Step 1: Open the Quiz
- Navigate to Quizzes and select the New Quiz.
Step 2: Access “Moderate”
- Click the Moderate tab at the top of the quiz.
Step 3: Locate the Student
- Find the student requiring accommodations.
Step 4: Set Extra Time
- Click Moderate next to the student’s name.
- Add extra time in the Time Adjustment field.
Step 5: Adjust Attempts or Availability
- Modify attempts or availability if needed.

- Save changes and verify settings.
