Canvas: Manage Notifications & Set the Right Email

Summary

Canvas sends course announcements, grade alerts, and due‑date reminders to the contact methods listed in your user profile (UHCL email by default). If those notifications are going to the wrong place—or you’re getting flooded with messages—you can adjust where and how often Canvas contacts you.

Canvas Notification Troubleshooting Guide

Common Issue Likely Cause Self-Service Fix
I'm not getting any Canvas emails. Your preferred email in Canvas is outdated or disabled. Add/verify the correct email under Account > Settings and set it as default.
I’m getting Canvas emails at the wrong address. A secondary email is set as default, or UHCL IT recently migrated your mailbox. In Account > Settings, click the star next to your UHCL email to make it the default.
Too many notifications! Default Canvas settings notify you of almost every event. Go to Account > Notifications and change each item to daily summary or weekly summary as preferred.
I never know when grades are posted. “Grades” notifications are turned off. Enable “Grades” (bell icon) and set it to immediately or daily.
