To build Project status dashboard

Summary

step-by-step process to create and share a dashboard

Body

Phase 1: Build the Executive Reports (Source Data)

Before designing the visual layout, ensure the necessary project status reports are created in TDNext / Work Management: [1]

  • Navigate to Analysis or the Projects application. [1, 2]
  • Create high-level, visual summaries that appeal to executives (e.g., charts rather than dense text grids). Recommended report widgets include:
    • Project Health Status: A pie chart showing the breakdown of active projects by health flag (Red, Yellow, Green).
    • Portfolio Milestone Timeline: A list or chart highlighting upcoming corporate-level milestones.
    • Budget vs. Actuals: A summary of overall portfolio financial progress.
    • High-Level Risks/Issues: Active elements flagged as critical roadblocks requiring executive oversight. [1, 2, 3]

Phase 2: Assemble the TDX Dashboard

  • Sign into TDX Work Management. [1]
  • From your home workspace, click + New Dashboard in the upper right corner. [1]
  • Enter a professional Name (e.g., Executive Portfolio Status Overview) and an optional Description. Click Save. [1]
  • On the Edit Dashboard canvas, structure your rows and layouts. (Tip: Use a prominent top row for critical KPIs or pie charts, and multiple columns below for list views). [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • Click + Add Widget inside your layout blocks, search for the reports you prepared in Phase 1, and select them to add them to the canvas. [1, 2]
  • Click Save at the top of the dashboard editor once you are finished configuring the layout. [1, 2]

Phase 3: Grant Executive Access & Share the Dashboard

Executives must have the proper permissions configured both on the dashboard level and the underlying reports to view the data seamlessly. [1]

  • Open your newly created dashboard and click Dashboard Settings (the gear icon).
  • In the Visibility section, change the setting from Just Me to Me and Others. (Do not choose "Everyone", as this shares it across the entire environment).
  • Search for and select the specific executive individuals or the Executive Leadership Group who require access.
  • Crucial Step: Ensure that all individual reports used as widgets on this dashboard are also shared with that same executive group. If the reports are set to private, executives will see broken or blank widgets on their dashboard.
  • Click Save. [1, 2, 3]

(Note: If your executives lack technician licenses to log into TDNext, you can alternatively use the Publish in client portal feature within Dashboard Settings to host the dashboard securely on a client portal page they can access). [1]

To help tailor the dashboard to your organization, let me know:

  • Will your executives be logging directly into TDNext (Work Management), or do you need to publish this to an external/client portal page?
  • What specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) or project metrics does your executive team value most?
