How To Remote Into Your UHCL WindowsOS Computer (or VM) on an UHCL AppleOS Device

Body

IMPORTANT: Your Windows PC or virtual machine (VM) must be powered on, connected to the network, and configured to allow remote access before attempting to connect.

NOTE: If you are off campus and the target device is located on campus, you must first connect to UHCL CISCO Secure Client VPN before initiating a remote session.

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • The Windows App installed on your Apple device.
  • The computer name of your Windows PC or virtual machine.
    • For example, if the computer is in B1974 and the tag number is 12345, the computer name would be B1974-N12345.
  • The login details for the authorized account that can access the computer.
    • For example, if your UHCL email is doejohn@uhcl.edu, your UHCL username would be doejohn.

Connect to Your Windows PC or VM

  1. Open the Windows App on your Apple device.
  2. Select + and choose Add PC.
  3. Enter the PC Name (computer name) of the Windows PC or VM you want to connect to.
  4. (Optional) Under User Account, add your Windows credentials, or choose to enter them when prompted.
  5. Select Save.
  6. Select the PC you just added to start the remote session.
  7. If prompted, enter your UHCL username and password
    1. For example, username: UHCL\doejohn.
  8. If a certificate warning appears, verify the PC information and select Continue if appropriate.
  9. Your remote desktop session will open, and you can begin using your Windows PC or VM.

If the connection fails:

  • Verify the PC or VM is powered on.
  • Confirm you entered the correct computer name.
  • Connect to UHCL VPN if required.
