How to Add a Network Printer (Windows 11)

Summary

Explains how to add UHCL network printers on Windows 11 using either the printer server or system settings, with troubleshooting tips and support contacts.

Body

These instructions are updated to reflect Windows 11. They replace older references to legacy Start menus and search behavior while preserving UHCL printer server usage.

Method 1: Add Printer via Printer Server (Recommended)

  1. Press Windows Key or click the Start button.
  2. In the search bar, type \\uhclprinting and press Enter.
  3. A list of available network printers will appear, sorted by building and room number. Example: B1321-Canon or B1321.01-A-C.
  4. Locate your printer and double-click it.
  5. Windows 11 will automatically install the printer.
  6. If prompted to install or trust the driver, select Yes.

Method 2: Add Printer via Settings (If Needed)

  1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  2. Click Add device.
  3. If the printer does not appear, select Add manually.
  4. Choose Select a shared printer by name.
  5. Enter: \\uhclprinting\PrinterName and click Next.
  6. Allow the driver to install when prompted.

Troubleshooting

  • If the printer does not appear, confirm it is powered on and connected to the UHCL network.
  • Some printers may be listed under alternate building abbreviations (e.g., SSCB under E or S).
  • Contact the UHCL Support Center if installation fails.
