Sharing Local Devices Using Remote Desktop Connection (RDP)

Summary

The guide explains how to edit an RDP file to share local resources—such as monitors, audio, drives, and optionally video devices—when connecting to a remote computer using Remote Desktop.

Body

Right click on the Remote Desktop file downloaded and select “Edit”.

Select the tab for the device you want to access:

  • Under Display, you can enable both your monitors if applicable.
  • Under Remote Audio, you can configure which computer plays audio.
  • Under the More tab, you can select “Drives” or expand it and select which specific drives you want accessible on the remote computer.

The drive will be accessible under This PC when saving or opening a file. You can also find it by opening File Explorer.
