The Canvas Gradebook is a powerful tool that helps faculty manage student grades, track progress, and provide timely feedback. It offers features such as customizable views, weighted grading, and integration with SpeedGrader, making it easy to organize assessments and ensure transparency for students.

Step 1: Access the Gradebook

  • From your Canvas course navigation menu, click Grades to open the Gradebook.

Step 2: Choose Your View

  • Use the View menu to switch between:
    • Default Gradebook: Displays all students and assignments.
    • Individual View: Focus on one student at a time.
    • Gradebook History: Review changes made to grades.

Step 3: Sort and Filter

  • Apply filters by section, assignment group, or grading period.
  • Sort columns by due date or assignment name for easier navigation.

Step 4: Enter and Adjust Grades

  • Click a cell to enter a grade manually.
  • Use the Grade Detail Tray for quick edits and comments.

Step 5: Use SpeedGrader

  • Click the assignment name and select SpeedGrader for streamlined grading with inline feedback.

Step 6: Apply Grade Posting Policies

  • Set grades to Automatically Post or Manually Post under the Grade Posting Policy settings.

Step 7: Export or Import Grades

  • Use the Actions menu to download a CSV file or upload grades from an external source.

Step 8: Monitor Student Performance

  • Check the Analytics or Gradebook Summary for trends and student progress.
